Yoga basics is about sharing the foundational aspects of yoga to build a deeper understanding of why we do what we do in class and how to take this ancient methodology into life off the mat. We open the studio space in a relaxed workshop style setting, with time to reach deeper into the primary elements of practice that timetabled classes aren’t able to do. The aim of this monthly class is to build confidence and strengthen the ‘why’ of yoga practice and is for anyone who wants to feel more comfortable on their mat + in the studio space.
When I became a yoga teacher my best friend asked “Does this mean you’ll be able to do some cool shit with your body?” I laughed and thought to myself how far from reality this common misperception was.
We don’t have to do fancy poses to experience yoga and it’s so unfortunate that this idea deters people from practising altogether, let alone considering attending a studio.
While yoga does offer the gifts of flexibility + strength, these come over time as an added benefit to a much deeper spiritual pursuit.
We don’t do yoga because we’re flexible, we create flexibility as a result of doing yoga, in our body + our mind. More importantly though, through regular practice we are gifted with a deeper awareness of ourselves and the world around us, supporting us to live a life aligned with what we truly value while supporting us to grow into the version of ourselves we most want to be. In yoga practice we move, we breathe and we become still.
Yoga draws us into silent presence so we can observe our tendencies, reactivities and tensions and gain a better understanding of what’s running us from the inside.
Knowledge is power and there is no greater power than what is within us waiting to be remembered.
Join me to experience the gifts of Yoga.
Love Karli.
